Advising

Advising

Will my Advisor be the Same as the Year Before?

Generally the answer to this is yes. Students will typically have the same advisor if they have not changed their major. All degree-seeking students at WKU are assigned an advisor. Your advisor will be someone from your area of study. For students who have declared their major, it will continue be a faculty or professional staff advisor within the college or department you have declared. Students have the option of being Exploratory within a college at WKU. After successful completion of a first year of college, Exploratory students need to be narrowing the options for the major significantly.

How Often am I Required to Meet with an Advisor?

This requirement does not change from year one to year two and beyond. Students must meet with an advisor twice an academic year (once in the fall and once in the spring). During these meetings you should be prepared to talk about course selection, career direction, study abroad, internships, and anything else you think is important when it comes to your success at WKU.
