Samuel and Emma Alexander Educational Scholarship Fund

In Memory of Gene Crume

Gene Cox Crume, born October 24, 1941 in Bardstown, Kentucky, was a distinguished educator who took on many roles throughout his teaching career, such as teacher, coach, vice principal, and principal. Gene was also known as a family man. Gene was a loving father to his four children and devoted husband to his wife of nearly fifty-four years, Hannah Alexander Crume.

Gene was passionate about his family. He and his wife, Hannah, rarely missed one of their children or grandchildren’s performances or ball games. Gene especially enjoyed watching his son, Dan, coach football. Gene rarely missed a game of his 29-year coaching career. Gene’s love and influence also stretched beyond his family. His involvement in the community provided love and leadership as a father figure to others.

Gene attended Western Kentucky University where he obtained a teaching degree. Prior to graduation he served in the US Army and as one of the first staff members at Stephen Foster Story. Gene began his career in Bowling Green at TC Cherry Elementary. After moving to Owensboro Gene continued his career throughout Daviess County. As principal and vice principal, Gene was an innovator and emphasized the important role of each staff member in the building.

Gene was also a devout Christian and served as a leader and choir member within his church. He marked up multiple copies of the Bible serving the God he loved with his daily devotional.

Gene and Hannah established the Samuel and Emma Alexander Scholarship Fund to honor Hannah's parents’ legacy in perpetuity
