Cancelled - 2020 H4- Honors Freshmen Orientation Retreat

On July 28, The Mahurin Honors College cancelled the 2020 H4 Honors Freshmen Orientation Retreat.  This decision was not made lightly, but with students' safety at the forefront.  With recent events in mind and in consultation with WKU administration, MHC administration made the difficult decision to cancel the retreat.

While we know this is disappointing news, we want to let you know that we are actively working on a virtual plan for H4 so that the #MHC24 class can get to know their counselors and get to learn more about The Mahurin Honors College and Western Kentucky University.

We want to be fully transparent with each of our scholars and their families.  We know you have questions.  We do not have all the answers.

While we will not be able to answer all of the questions, we are going to do our best to answer every question we can.  As we know more questions/answers, we will include them below in our compiled H4 Frequently Asked Questions.

2020 H4 Frequently Asked Questions

No student will be charged for H4 this year.

Counselors assignments will be emailed to all those who were registered to attend H4 by Thursday, July 30, 2020.

It will look very different from normal H4, but so has everything in 2020.  We are currently working on a plan with our great team of Counselors that will include a daily small group session for the days of H4 (and potentially beyond).  More to come!

We will have a full schedule in the coming days, but we plan on having activities daily from August 10 through August 13 (and potentially all the way to August 20).

We would love to include you in the virtual elements that take part with H4 .  Please email honors.admissions@wku.edu with the following information:

  • Name
  • WKU ID
  • Residence Hall/Commuter
  • Major/Minor

From there, we will connect you with a counselor to be included in their group.

At this point, all classes are still scheduled to take place starting August 24, 2020.  When we are updated with any additional details, we will let our scholars know.

YES!  Those scheduled for Top Drop & Go should still move in at their scheduled time, as the Minton schedule is now almost full for before school starts.  You will move-in your items and then return home.

Housing and Residence Life asks that you cancel your current timeslot in the housing portal and choose a new timeslot for their next program, whether that is Sorority Recruitment move-in on August 13 or MASTER plan move-in on the dates of August 17, 18 or 19.

  • Potential New Members participating in Sorority Recruitment - Can return August 13 after 5pm. Please report to Downing Student Union for Recruitment Orientation at 6:00pm and then you may re-enter Minton Hall after orientation.
  • M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan - Can return to your residence hall at one of the following times:
    • August 17 after 5pm
    • August 18 after 8pm
    • August 19th after 8pm
    • August 20th 8am-10am.

The first M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan session will begin at 11am on August 20, on your residence hall floor.

We do not have the answer to this question yet, but more information will be shared in the coming days from Greek Life.
We strongly encourage each scholar to still attend M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan.  Be on the lookout (check your WKU email) for more information from Housing and Residence LIfe in the coming days.
