Library Services & Equipment for Patrons With Disabilities

WKU Libraries assist in making copies for patrons with disabilities. Once a student is registered with the Student Accessibility Resource Center (SARC), a representative with SARC will work with our Librarians to ensure the student is provided with the resources needed. There is no charge to the patron.

Located on Raymond Cravens fourth floor, JAWS is a synthesized-voice software program loaded on a wheelchair-accessible computer. It enables users with visual impairments to use the computer. The use of JAWS is reserved for students who are registered with the Student Disability Services office.

There are scanners available on the fourth floor of Cravens. There is a table-top bed scanners for normal scanning of documents.

The Library provides a Knowledge Imaging Center (KIC) Scanner located on the fourth floor of Raymond Cravens library. The KIC scanner allows high resolution scanning of delicate collections by using a "top-down" camera to scan content. This allows delicate items to be scanned without stressing book spines, or damaging frail items. The KIC scanner also provides Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for documents that can be read by screen readers such as JAWS.

There is one wide and a high computer workstations for wheelchair users located on the fourth floor of Raymond Cravens Library.

Library staff will assist patrons in retrieving items from the shelves. Ask at the Circulation Desk, the Reference Center, or the Periodicals Desk.

In the event journal articles are needed in another format, our Interlibrary Loan staff can work with you to acquire an electronic version of the article via Interlibrary Loan.
