Malika Brower

Malika Brower, Violin Performance Major

Career Goal: To teach young violinists and musicians through a private studio and pre-college program, and perform personally in symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles.

As a member of the WKU symphony orchestra, Malika preforms in multiple concerts each year, and served as co-concert master during her junior year. She completed four units of the Suzuki training during her time at WKU, and is learning to teach young students violin under the tutelage of Dr. Ching Yi Lin in the pre-college strings program. She helps teach in “Bridging Cultures Through Music,” a program that offers violin instruction to English as a Second Language (ESL) students at the Bowling Green High School after school program. She was accepted in the 2019 Eastern Music Festival’s (EMF’s) summer orchestra program in Greensboro, North Carolina, and participated again virtually with both EMF’s program and a program called “Online Solo Strings Intensive” in the summer of 2020.

“I appreciate the way the faculty in the Music Department have taken a personal interest in my growth as a musician. Learning from talented musicians and professors motivates me to reach my educational goals.”
