Pass Grading Option Information


Effective for the Fall 2020 Semester, WKU will allow students to petition faculty to receive a Pass (P) for certain courses for which they earned a B or C. After fall grades have been posted on December 15, students will need to make a formal petition to faculty via email stating why their grade should be changed to Pass (P). Faculty will determine if the grade of P will be granted for B or C grades.


  • After grades have been posted (December 15th at noon), students can email their faculty member to request grade of Pass (P).
  • The email should contain their name, 800#, course, section numbers, and Covid-related reason for requesting a P.
  • Students must email requests to the faculty member by January 13, 2021. The faculty will approve or deny the request by January 20, 2021. Approved requests will be forwarded to department heads.  The approved grade changes will be sent to the registrar for processing. 

Please note some courses are exempt from the Pass (P) option because of licensure and certification issues. Courses assigned a “P” will NOT be included in the computation of semester and/or cumulative grade point average (GPA). The course assigned a “P” will count as academic credit. Please also recall that the final date to withdraw from a class has been extended to December 4. To withdraw from the course, login into Topnet.  Click Registration, click Register/Add/Drop and select the fall semester. Then, locate the course from which you need to withdraw and select the withdraw button.

We encourage you to consult your faculty member and/or academic advisor before you withdraw from a class or request the Pass (P) option.

December 15, 2020

Final grades for Fall 2020 are due at noon. 

January 13, 2021

Students will need to make a formal petition to faculty via email stating why their grade should be changed to Pass (P) by this date.

January 20, 2021

Faculty will approve or deny the request for a P (Pass) by this date.

January 27, 2021

Grade changes that have been approved by faculty will be processed by the Office of the Registrar.
