GWS Student Stories

Heather Pease (2006)

My time with the Gender and Women Studies Program is the cornerstone for which I’ve built both my professional and personal life. From 2004-2006, I worked toward my GWS graduate certificate and was also fortunate to work as the graduate assistant for the program. I moved to Breckenridge, CO after completing graduate school where I worked as an events and communications professional. I also learned to ski, met my partner-in-life, and became a mom! I moved to Nashville in 2015 and was hired by the State of TN as a communications officer. I am the communications contact for our Employee Assistance Program, which is a free resource for all employees that provides assistance on a number of gender-related issues such as violence against women, sexuality, and gender biases. I highly recommend the Gender and Women’s Studies Program. It not only prepared me for my professional life, but it also empowered me in my personal life. I found a partner-in-life who is a true partner, and I feel confident that I can raise a son who is equality-minded.
