Student Leadership Opportunities


 

WKU Housing & Residence Life offers several opportunities for students to engage in leadership positions through the WKU Residence Hall Association (RHA) and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH)

 

Students who hold office as the President of RHA, Vice President of RHA, or President or NRHH each receive a $500 housing scholarship each semester the position is held.

Students in those positions will also be able to check into their residence hall early, and will be able to attend a student leadership conference in the fall and spring semesters.

 


The Residence Hall Association of Western Kentucky University is a recognized student organization that develops leadership skills, fosters a sense of community, and represents the interests of the residence hall students.

The National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) is the premiere honorary supported by the leading international organization advocating for the interests and welfare of residence hall students, while also providing opportunities for their personal growth and development.

The purpose of the WKU Residence Hall Association is: 

  • To provide campus-wide educational, social, and service opportunities 

  • To promote social, educational, and service opportunities within the residence halls 

  • To serve as liaison between residents, HRL, and the University as a whole 

The following Executive Board positions are available for the Residence Hall Association:

  • President
  • Vice President

RHA Executive Board Qualifications:

  • Maintain a full-time student status at Western Kentucky University 

  • Reside in a residence hall during the academic year. 

  • Have lived in the residence hall for at least one full semester  

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 while assuming the position. 

RHA President
RHA President Duties/Responsibilities
  • Presides over RHA Executive Board Meetings 

  • Serves as the primary student representative in all areas of WKU Housing & Residence Life 

  • Represents (or appoints a representative) on University and Department committees

  • Prepares and proposes meeting agendas for the RHA Executive Board 

  • Meets with the RHA advisor(s) at least twice per month 

  • Ensures that each officer (Vice President and NRHH President) is performing his or her specified duties 

  • Maintains all official correspondence of RHA

RHA Vice President
RHA Vice President Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assumes duties of the President in case of the President’s absence 

  • Oversees the planning/execution of all general recreational RHA trips 

  • Oversees the programs of RHA 

  • Meets with a designated Advisor at least twice per month 

  • Assumes any duties delegated by the President 

  • Responsible for RHA t-shirt development and distribution, during fall semester

NRHH is a leadership-based honorary comprised of exemplary residential students who value service and recognition. The purpose of this organization shall be to recognize those individuals who have demonstrated positive leadership and outstanding service to residence hall life at Western Kentucky University to assist in developing residence hall involvement, and to uphold the values of Service, and Recognition.

NRHH President
NRHH President Duties/Responsibilities
  • Serves as a liaison between RHA and NRHH

  • Attend all executive board meetings

  • Ensures NRHH maintains good standing with the National Association of College University Residence Halls and Western Kentucky University

  • Oversees all membership processes with the assistance of the RHA President and RHA Vice President
