Research

Current research is done in collaboration with the USDA-ARS Unit in Bowling Green.  Studies involve production of corn or fescue using various animal manures as a fertilizer source.  The studies help to determine which nutrients are held by the soil, taken up by the crop or possibly enter the groundwater system.  We also are looking at the soil quality of an area that was once a feedlot situation to see how long nutrients, pathogens and pharmaceuticals are present after the cattle have been removed.

Biography

My degrees are listed below.  I grew up in a rural community of about 2,000 people in Ohio.  My grandfather had a dairy, tobacco and grain farm where I loved to visit and work as a kid.  My love of Agriculture grew from that point. One of the reasons I love to teach soil is that it involves all the basic sciences of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in an applied setting of Agriculture. What is there not to love about SOIL!!

I have been at WKU since 1998.  I am the WKU Soil Judging Coach and we compete both regionally and nationally.  I also am a co-advisor to the Agronomy Club.
