Instructional Design & Technology


About Us

Instructional Design and Technology is a unit of the Center of Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL).  We have a team of instructional designers, support specialists, and student workers focused on our mission to support the WKU community in designing and implementing quality learning experiences in all modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online).


Services

The instructional design and technology staff offer the following services: Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Professional Development, Special Projects. 

We collaborate with faculty on the design and development of engaging courses and learning experiences built on a foundation of sound instructional practices, learning theories, design models, and quality metrics.   

These services include, but are not limited to: Accessibility consultation, active learning strategies consultation, objective writing/editing, assessment strategy design and implementation, instructional alignment consultation, and Quality Matters consultation and preparation. 

We evaluate, recommend, pilot, and implement the use of instructional technology meant to improve instruction and add value to varied learning environments. 

These services include, but are not limited to: Custom Blackboard master course shells, Blackboard course set-up and support services for courses of all modalities, custom course development, online testing creation and support, custom instructional graphic/animation creation, instructional videography, novel technology and tool consultation and integration, technology pilots, and troubleshooting and support by request.  

We design and facilitate training programs, modules, webinars, and resources based on institutional and stakeholder needs often in collaboration with CITL’s Faculty Development unit. 

These services include,but are not limited to: Technology and Pedagogy/Andragogy Focused Webinars, Bespoke Presentations for Departments (past topics have included Accessibility, Testing, and Objective Writing), Online Teaching Course, tutorial creation, and semester launch office hours. 

We also partner with other units and departments within CITL and throughout campus to further the teaching and learning mission of the university.   

Some of these projects have included: Inclusive Teaching Academy in partnership with the Student Support, Faculty Development, and Community of Practice Faculty Fellows within CITL; Best Expectations Program (Online) in partnership with WKU Online and Advising; Online Student Orientation in partnership with Cohort Programs and Online Support Services; Blackboard Ultra Pilot in partnership with Information Technology Services; among many others.
