Organization: Train Museum and Historic Railpark at the L&N Depot
My summer of 2008 was spent primarily working for the Train Museum and Historic Railpark at the L&N Depot here in Bowling Green. The internship was a spectacular experience for me: not only did I have the chance to continue my museum experience, but I also learned the history of one of the town's major landmarks.
My responsibilities as a museum tour guide brought me into contact with all sorts of people, each one able to tell me a little more about not only life on the railroads but about the experience of a different time. Not only was I able to work with the public; I worked under the Director to conduct an inventory of the museum collections and created interpretive labels for all of the artifact exhibits. Working with a small museum, I was lucky to be involved in so many aspects of the day to day operations. Most importantly, working at the Depot grounded me in the community. The internship portion of my degree at WKU has been a priceless opportunity that will certainly help me post-graduation.
