Organization: Cumberland Trace Elementary
This Fall 2008 semester, I taught a Hispanic arts & culture unit to the children at Cumberland Trace Elementary. The children from K through 3rd worked on molas, learning about this traditional reverse applique technique of the Kuna indians of Panama and Colombia. The 4th through 6th grade students learned about Latin music and dance, from Merengue and Salsa, to Tango and Punta, among others. Throughout the semester I was able to collaborate with the music, physical education, Spanish, and art teachers, and learn about folklore and education in a public school setting.
