“Enrichment for gifted young people is a major force for good in the world, and The Center for Gifted Studies leads this endeavor most outstandingly.”
Harry Chalmers, SCATS 02-04, VAMPY 05-06, Counselor 09-10
Did you know that The Center is self-sustaining? Did you know that you make The Center possible? Without our great friends, we wouldn’t be able to provide opportunities for gifted students, services for their teachers, or support for their families.
Gifted children hold the keys to the best possible futures for our communities, our state, our nation – even our world. The Center’s goal is to help those young people who are gifted and talented reach their extraordinary potential by providing them with academic enrichment opportunities and a community of their intellectual peers.
Gifted and talented young people need opportunities for growth. Some of those needs are being met by The Center through such programs as Super Saturdays, Camp Explore, Camp Innovate, SCATS, and VAMPY. But there’s so much more we’d like to do for teachers and for students. If you would like to support The Center, contact Dr. Julia Roberts, Executive Director of The Center for Gifted Studies, or Amanda Coates-Lich, Development Officer for the College of Education.
The interest is there; the need is there; and, with your help, the programs will be there as well!
This is list of areas of future development for The Center for Gifted Studies that you may find to be of interest as a potential donor. We certainly hope you will contact us with your ideas on how you can help us!
Leadership Academy – In a one-week residential experience, middle and high school students who demonstrate the potential for leadership would have the opportunity to study leadership, develop leadership skills, and build a plan to be carried out with the student in a leadership role.
Weekend Academic Seminars - Middle and high school gifted students would have weekend opportunities to study one content area.
The Summer Institute in Gifted Education – This would be a one-week institute that would offer teachers a variety of workshops to help them address the cognitive and social-emotional needs of gifted children.
The Counselor Institute – This institute would offer school counselors information on the social-emotional needs of children who are gifted and talented and strategies to guide them in educational and vocational choices.
Preservice Teacher Preparation – In preservice teacher education, we want to prepare teachers to teach all children, including the gifted. The Kentucky New Teacher Standards provide the basis to support appropriate learning opportunities for children who learn at a faster pace and at a more complex level.
