Skills Training Groups that will be offered at the end of February:

How to make friends and deal with social situations.

[This group will meet on Wednesdays at 4:30 starting on 2/26/14.  Meeting will take place in the 2nd floor conference room in Potter Hall.]

Staff from the CTC will teach specific skills to help students be more comfortable when meeting new people and in other social situations. This skills group will meet once a week and will run for four weeks. Participants will learn:

How to interpret verbal and non-verbal communication.

How to ask questions and engage more comfortably in discussions.

How to be more comfortable introducing oneself.

Time will be allotted during training time for both learning and practice

Training groups work best when they focus on the needs of the participants. Other topics may be added as needed.

How to cope with anxiety and depression

[This group will meet on Mondays at 4:30 starting on 2/24/14.  Meeting will take place in the 2nd floor conference room in Potter Hall]

Staff from the CTC will help teach skills to cope with anxiety and depression. This group will meet once a week and will run for eight weeks. This group will focus on two important aspects of dealing with depression and anxiety:

Learning and practicing new coping skills.

Providing a safe place for students to support each other, identify roadblocks, and help each other implement the new skills

Training groups work best when they focus on the needs of the participants. Staff will work with participants to help them meet their specific needs while remaining focused on anxiety and depression
