Jim Kim joined the WKU string faculty in the Fall of 2012. A native of South Korea, Kim’s passion for performance has taken him to various venues in Korea, Japan and the United States, collaborating with renowned artists such as Sadao Harada, Jean-Louis Hagenauer and Federico Agostini. While serving as the concertmaster of the Korea National Symphony Orchestra, he was frequently invited to perform both as a soloist and chamber musician for the President of South Korea.
Kim has a special passion for teaching students of varying age and levels. In addition to studying violin pedagogy with Professors Mimi Sweig and Brenda Brenner, he has served as a teaching assistant to Federico Agostini and as an association violin instructor of violin at Indiana University, working extensively with music education majors and music minors. His principal teachers include Yuval Yaron, Ilya Kaler, Federico Agostini and Ik-Hwan Bae.
He earned his BM and MM in violin performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and is currently finishing his DM in violin performance from the same institution.
