Prior to graduate work at WKU, Mr. Casana completed ELS at University of Pittsburg, PA.
Bio
A Fulbright Scholar, native Spanish speaker, and selected nationwide to continue higher education in the U.S., Alfonso holds a Master’s degree in Science with emphasis in City and Regional Planning at Western Kentucky University. He has continuously attended training sessions and workshops to learn new tools for teaching foreign languages and has participated as a presenter in a professional development workshop at the university. He has been teaching Spanish at WKU, as a part time instructor, since 2001.
He has taught at WKU Extended Learning Programs in Russellville, Morgantown, Brownsville, and Glasgow. Before joining the Modern Language Department at WKU, he worked for a BRADD (Barren River Area Development District) for more than 18 years. Prior to that, he has taught at the National University in Perú for more than 10 years. Currently he works as a full time at Planning Design & Construction department at WKU as the Senior Project Manager for Renovations. He is a Professional Civil Engineer and Geographic Information System Professional. An important aspect of his life includes his family and friends. He enjoys soccer, tennis, traveling, and meeting people from other countries.
Teaching Philosophy
Learning another language at the Cathedral of Learning at Pitt University provided him a clear understanding what it can take to study a foreign language not only on the side as a student but also as an instructor. That makes his job much easier and enjoyable.
