Joint Undergraduate-Masters Program (BS/MS)

Climb Higher with a Bachelor of Science in Psychological Science.

The Department of Psychological Sciences offers a Joint Undergraduate-Masters Program (JUMP) for highly qualified students. We are the only department in the state of Kentucky to offer this unique, accelerated program in the discipline of psychology.

In this five-year course of study, students will earn a Bachelor of Science in Psychological Sciences and a Master of Science in Psychology. JUMP students take undergraduate coursework that is applied to the undergraduate degree and graduate coursework that can be applied to both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. This program provides highly qualified students with an excellent opportunity for accelerated study as students work with our faculty on research projects in psychological science.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, students:

  • Have completed at least 60 credit hours and have 15 or more credit hours remaining to complete the bachelor’s degree.
  • Have earned at least 24 credit hours at WKU. (Note: this means that transfer students are not eligible for JUMP until they first complete 24 hours at WKU.)
  • Be a Psychological Science major.
  • Must have completed or be currently enrolled in 16 credit hours in Psychological Science, including PSYS 100, PSYS 210/211, and PSYS 313, or the equivalent of these classes.

  • Must be sponsored by a faculty member of the Department of Psychological Sciences who, in a recommendation letter, attests to mentoring you through your master’s thesis project.

Please review whether you meet the eligibility criteria with your faculty academic advisor in the Department of Psychological Sciences and with your faculty research mentor who is supervising your research project.

Admission to the Psychological Sciences JUMP program is highly competitive and a limited number of applicants will be accepted. Note that applicants are interviewed by at least two Psychological Sciences faculty members prior to admission.
