WKU SGA plays an active role in student advocacy and university governance through a wide array of university committees. Often times, various university officials will request student representation on various committees, boards, and councils. The president of the Student Government Association appoints student leaders to these various positions with the approval of the Student Senate.

 

WKU Governance primarily includes the Student Government Association for all WKU students, the University Senate(https://www.wku.edu/senate/) for all faculty members at WKU, and the Staff Council(https://www.wku.edu/staffcouncil/) for all WKU staff members. Above these three governing bodies of all constituencies at WKU is the Administrative Council (https://www.wku.edu/admin/staff/index.php) overseen by the president of WKU (http://www.wku.edu/president/). The president of WKU is selected by the Board of Regents (https://www.wku.edu/regents/), the highest governing body at WKU, comprised of eleven members. Eight of the members are appointed by the governor of Kentucky from among nominees submitted by a nominating commission. These members serve up to two six-year terms.  Faculty and staff representatives are elected by their peers to three-year terms. The student representative is the president of the Student Government Association and is elected to a one-year term.  All members have voting privileges.
