Sociology of Race, Class and Gender, Rural and Urban Community Theory, Collective Behavior, Research Methods, Social Statisitics, Sociological Theory, Sexuality and Society, and Social Inequality.
My main area of research is in community leadership particularly in the Mississipi Delta. My dissertation focused on how race, class and gender operated in the election and governing experiences of mayors in thirteen Mississippi Delta communitites. This work will be extended in the future of focus specifically on rural women leaders as the challenges they faced due to gender were particularly interesting. Further, the research will be extended to other racial and ethnic groups to better understand cultural differences in the understanding and operation of leadership.
I also have interest in participatory and action research and evaluation. I have experience conducting evaluations of leadership development prgrams across the United States. Most recently I finished an evaluation of the Mid-South Delta Leaders Program a tri-state partenership with Delta State University in Mississippi, Arkansas State University and Grambling State University in Louisiana and funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
Currently, I am working with the BRIDGES Work Restitution Initiative which works with adjudicated youth in Hardin County, KY. This program helps youth find employment, build social and work skills and links them with local mentors. If you are interested in being a mentor, please contact me! Further, I am conducting the evaluation of this program.
I am happy to assist students in any of these areas of research or theory whether you are located in Elizabethtown, Bowling Green or any other of our regional campuses.
