Special Education is a Program Area in the School of Teacher Education within the College of Education & Behavioral Sciences. Graduates in the area of Special Education continue the tradition of excellence with their high levels of preparation and dedication to the profession. In recent years, students have held leadership positions at the local, state, and national levels in the professional organization, Student Council for Exceptional Children.

At the undergraduate level, students admitted to the program as of Spring, 2005 will major (there is no minor) in the Bachelor of Science in Special Education, Learning and Behavioral Disorders AND Moderate and Severe Disabilities, Primary through Twelfth Grade (P-12). At the graduate level, students may elect a Master of Arts in Education in either Learning and Behavior Disorders P-12 or Moderate and Severe Disabilities P-12. Admission requirements for both areas depend upon the applicant's initial certification.

At the post-master's level, students may pursue a Planned Sixth-Year (Rank I) or endorsement for Director of Special Education.
