Transfer Student Scholarships

Information Applicable to Students Transferring to WKU Beginning Fall 2017.

If you have previously earned college credit at an institution other than WKU, but you have not completed a bachelor's degree, then you are considered a transfer student.

Transfer Base Award

Eligibility & Application

Students with a minimum of 24 transfer hours from a regionally accredited institution and a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA qualify for WKU’s Transfer Base Awards.    

To be considered for a Transfer Base Award, students must have a complete application package on file by April 1 (for fall) and November 1 (for spring).  A complete application package includes the following:

  • Applied AND admitted to WKU by April 1 (for fall) and November 1 (for spring)
  • Applied to TOPDollar by February 1
  • Official transcript reflecting transfer hours received by April 1 (for fall) and November 1 (for spring)

Award & Notification

Transfer Base Awards range from $1,500 to $2,500 per academic year as demonstrated in the chart below.

Students who qualify for a Transfer Base Award and are admitted by April 1 (for fall) and November 1 (for spring) will be notified of their eligibility for this award shortly after being admitted.

Students receiving a Transfer Base Award may also be eligible for Transfer Targeted Awards and TOPDollar awards, up to Cost of Attendance.

Transfer Base Awards require full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours).

Students who meet the minimum criteria for this award (GPA/24+ transfer hours) but do not apply for admission by the April 1 (for fall) and November 1 (for spring) deadline will still be considered, contingent upon availability of scholarship funds.  Notification of eligibility for late applicants will occur by mid-July for fall applicants and by mid-December for spring applicants.

Disbursement

Scholarship awards are applied toward charges that exist on the student’s account at WKU.  In the event total awards (grants, loans, scholarships) exceed total charges (tuition, fees, housing, meals, books), a refund will be issued to the student by the option chosen when selecting the refund preference at RefundSelection.com

Renewal

Transfer Base Awards are automatically renewable with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (at the end of the spring semester).  Students who fail to meet the renewal GPA of 3.0 can use the summer term to bring their GPA up to the required level.     

Transfer Base Awards are renewable for up to 2 academic years or until graduation, whichever occurs first.

Transfer Targeted Award

Eligibility & Application

Students who completed an Associate’s degree within the last 2 years form a regionally accredited institution with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA qualify for WKU’s Transfer Targeted Award.

To be considered for a Transfer Targeted Award, students must have a complete application package on file by April 1 (for fall) and November 1 (for spring).  A complete application package includes the following:

  • Applied AND admitted to WKU by April 1 (for fall) and November 1 (for spring)
  • Applied to TOPDollar by February 1
  • An official transcript reflecting the Associate's degree must be received by WKU before this award will be made.

Award & Notification

The value of this Transfer Targeted Award is $1,500 per academic year.

Students who qualify for a Transfer Targeted Award and are admitted by April 1 (for fall) and November 1 (for spring) will be notified of their eligibility for this award shortly after being admitted.

Students receiving a Targeted Transfer Award may also be eligible for Transfer Base Awards and TOPDollar awards, up to Cost of Attendance.
