165 Students Come to the 32nd Year of SCATS at WKU

The Center for Gifted Studies at WKU hosted 165 campers for the 32nd annual Summer Camp for Academically Talented Middle School Students (SCATS) from June 8 to 20.

Located on the campus of WKU, SCATS provides enhanced learning opportunities for academically talented sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.

This summer, young people from 38 Kentucky school districts, 15 Kentucky private schools, two Kentucky Diocese, one home school, 10 states, the District of Columbia and Saudi Arabia participated in 31 challenging and fun courses.

Students chose the four classes they attended daily at the two-week camp. The Center offered a diverse curriculum encompassing music, science, art, math, history, and acting with classes including Youth for Human Rights, Mysteries of the Marine, Clowning, American History through Pop Culture, Science-Discover It, Introduction to Robotics, Creative Ceramics, and more.

Outside the classroom, residential campers participated in a variety of engaging activities, such as musical performances, sports matches, dances, and a talent show.

The dates for the 33rd year of SCATS are June 7 to June 19, 2015 and the application will be available in mid-January.
