Dr. Banga awarded NIH instrumentation grant for Electrophoresis Imaging System
- Thursday, August 29th, 2024
Dr. Simran Banga, Associate Professor, in Western Kentucky University’s Department of Biology received a National Institute of Health (NIH) grant to fund the acquisition of an Electrophoresis Imaging System to be housed in the WKU Biotechnology Center.
The new electrophoresis imaging system will replace a 19-year-old imager to document and analyze DNA and protein gels processed by students in research and teaching laboratory courses. It is an essential equipment routinely used for imaging and quantifying nucleic acids and proteins in gels and western blots.
The instrument will fulfill the imaging needs of several research laboratories engaged in a wide area of research ranging from microbiology, yeast biology, cell proliferation, and tumor metastasis.
This imager will also support the learning objectives of five different biology courses and enrich the educational experience of undergraduate students from multiple departments with different majors.
