The WKU Office of Sustainability is partnering with the Barren River District Health Department, the Community Farmers Market and others to celebrate Food Day on Wednesday (Oct. 24) at WKU’s L.D. Brown Agricultural Exposition Center.
Food Day is a national celebration of healthy, affordable and sustainably produced food, and a grassroots campaign for better food policies.
The Food Day conference and expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ag Expo Center. WKU President Gary Ransdell and Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer are scheduled to participate.
The conference will include presentations on the business of farming, nutrition, and community connections. Conference registration is $10 and includes a local foods lunch.
The event also will include a free expo showcasing regional and local organizations and initiatives and sustainability skills workshops (separate registration and fee required for the workshops).
From 5 to 8 p.m., participants will have an opportunity to meet farmers at a night market at the Ag Expo Center and take hay ride tours of the WKU Farm. The night market and activities are free and open to all.
The event concludes from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with a Farm Elegant Dinner featuring local foods prepared by area chefs. Tickets are $35 each.
