WKU faculty member joining occupational health psychology committee
- Monday, February 28th, 2022
Dr. Katrina Burch, Assistant Professor in WKU’s Department of Psychological Sciences, has been invited to join the Society for Occupational Health Psychology’s new Scientific Affairs Committee.
“I see my expertise in occupational health psychology as a tool to grow collaborations with faculty and units at Western Kentucky University, but also with colleagues within and outside the U.S.,” said Dr. Burch, who also is Director of WKU’s Industrial/Organizational Psychology Graduate Program. “Work on the Scientific Affairs Committee provides an additional avenue for education and dissemination.”
Occupational health psychology (OHP) is an interdisciplinary field that concerns the application of psychology to improving the quality of work life, and protecting and promoting the safety, health, and well-being of workers.
The SOHP Scientific Affairs Committee will promote the impact of OHP work to academic and non-academic audiences. Activities will include scientific communication that promote OHP in digestible formats, including hosting a blog on the SOHP website to share research findings with non-academic audiences and discuss key tips and best practices in conducting research. The committee also will work on providing learning and networking opportunities through community of practice sessions, panel sessions, and workshops.
