Dr. Bruce Schulte, Associate Vice President for Strategy, Performance & Accountability and University Distinguished Professor, was recognized with the Richard Buchholz Conservation Behavior Award at the recent meeting of the Animal Behavior Society Conservation Committee in San Jose, Costa Rica.  The award recognizes ABS members for outstanding contributions to the field of conservation behavior.

One recipient is selected each year from a pool of nominees assessed on their contributions to conservation behavior through publication history, student mentorship, course design and teaching, affected conservation programs, and variety of approach.

“Bruce is recognized for the diversity of behavioral research approaches he applies to resolving conservation conflicts, his seminary publications, service work, and mentorship of the next generation of conservation behaviorists,” the Animal Behavior Society said.

Dr. Schulte’s contributions to resolving conservation issues stem from training as a behavioral biologist, and now  encompass a team of collaborators and students.  Alongside colleague Dr. Lynn Von Hagen, he presented in and co-moderated a presentation session titled Their Best Interests in Mind: Conservation and Behavior.  Dr. Schulte and Dr. Hagen also visited the Cloudbridge Nature Reserve to talk with a group of high school students from the United Kingdom, researchers, and staff.
