Planetarium to present ‘Astrophotography from Your Driveway’ with Carlos Rotellar
- Tuesday, November 1st, 2022
At 7 p.m. Monday (November 7), WKU’s Hardin Planetarium will host a free, public discussion on the basics of astrophotography and night sky photography, featuring Carlos Rotellar. Rotellar’s photos are displayed at SKyPAC, and now Hardin Planetarium.
Astrophotography from Your Driveway will include telescopes with which you can interact and learn. The event will end by 8:30 p.m. Rotellar will explain how accessible this kind of photography can be, as he does most of his work from his driveway. He is donating three of his images for the planetarium’s museum.
Using cameras at night to see stars can prove difficult, and combining the camera with a telescope can be especially confusing. Rotellar taught himself, and his advice can open new opportunities for anyone interested.
Along with special events, Hardin Planetarium offers free presentations every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. and on Sundays at 2 p.m. The current show is When the Universe Was Young, which explains how it is possible for us to see the universe as it looked more than 13.7 billion years ago. When the Universe Was Young will continue until Thanksgiving. After Thanksgiving, the planetarium will present Celebrations for a Long Winter’s Night until the new year. A full schedule of shows is available on the planetarium's website at www.wku.edu/hardinplanetarium/public-shows.php.
