Joshua Vossler Appointed New Dean of WKU Libraries

Western Kentucky University Libraries is excited to announce that Joshua Vossler will be joining as the new Dean of University Libraries, starting on July 1, 2024. Vossler, who is currently the Dean of the Library at Chicago State University, has extensive experience in leadership roles in higher education.
WKU Provost, Bud Fischer, expressed his excitement in welcoming a new addition to the WKU community. Fischer stated, "I'm delighted to welcome Mr. Vossler to the WKU community." Dr. Fischer further noted that "Mr. Vossler is the perfect person to lead WKU’s library services, which combine stepping toward the future with emerging technologies to support student learning and faculty scholarly and creative works while honoring our collective history with archives and curated collections," added Dr. Fischer.
In a recent interview, Mr. Vossler expressed his excitement about joining Western Kentucky University, stating, "It is truly an honor and privilege to be appointed as the Dean of University Libraries at such a prestigious institution." He commended the modern facilities and dedicated library staff at WKU, emphasizing the student-centered focus on campus. Mr. Vossler particularly praised the vibrant student culture at the Commons in Helm Library. "I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together," said Mr. Vossler.
Drawing on his wealth of experience and insights gained from working in diverse academic settings, Joshua Vossler is well-equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. He is committed to fostering collaboration and welcoming new ideas, stating, "The best solutions are often home-grown, and the future is best mapped out collaboratively."
Something Mr. Vossler would like to openly communicate with the WKU community is his life with Tourette syndrome, a condition that brings involuntary facial twitches and occasional noises. By sharing his story, he promotes open dialogue, awareness, and understanding of neurological diversity in academia.
As the new Dean of University Libraries, Mr. Vossler looks forward to, "Getting to know my new colleagues, both within and outside of the Libraries, and to build on Dean de Vries’ accomplishments."
