Hilltopper Astronomy Club hosting Observe the Moon Night event Sept. 22
- Thursday, September 20th, 2012
Members of the Hilltopper Astronomy Club will convene in the lobby of Thompson Complex Center Wing at 7 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 22) for the 2012 International Observe the Moon Night.
The 2012 InOMN event will celebrate the life of the late Neil Armstrong and pay tribute to the pioneer of space exploration who was the first human to walk on the moon.
Armstrong’s family released a statement after his Aug. 25 death: “For those who may ask what they can do to honor Neil, we have a simple request. Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink.”
In the spirit of this wish, the Hilltopper Astronomy Club will join an international effort to honor Armstrong’s achievements by taking pictures of participants winking at the moon and submitting those pictures a Flickr group set up as a central repository for these pictures.
