Dr. Allison Kennedy Thurmond, American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) distinguished speaker, will present Preparing for the Quickening Pace of Technology Evolution in Petroleum Geoscience at 3 p.m. April 4 as part of the Department of Geography and Geology seminar series at WKU.

The lecture will be held in Environmental Sciences and Technology Building, room 260, and is open to the public. The AAPG distinguished lecture program is the Association’s oldest and most prestigious program funded by the AAPG Foundation.

Dr. Thurmond is a manager in Statoil (formerly Norsk Hydro and StatoilHydro) for research and development in basin and petroleum systems analysis in Bergen, Norway. She works with a team of talented researchers spread throughout Norway and in Houston who are developing cutting-edge technologies in topics such as basin analysis, geodynamics, petroleum systems analysis, and pore pressure and seal. She graduated with bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Geosciences from the University of Texas at Dallas, where her graduate focus included structural geology, tectonics, remote sensing and GIS.

“As a former colleague at the University of Texas at Dallas, I can attest to Allie’s devotion to her discipline in becoming a renowned geoscientist,” said Dr. Nahid Gani, Assistant Professor of Geology at WKU. “Allie continues to disseminate her expertise in petroleum exploration research and development through educating and promoting the geosciences to other geoscientists, students and the general public.”

Dr. Thurmond’s visit will be critical for WKU geoscience students to better understand fast-evolving technology in petroleum geoscience.

The seminar is arranged by Dr. Gani through the AAPG 2014 Distinguished Lecture Series program and the Geoscience seminar series of the Geography and Geology Department.
