Keeling visits London for journal’s editorial board meeting
- Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014
University Distinguished Professor of Geography Dr. David Keeling visited London, England, last week to attend the annual meeting of the Royal Geographical Society and to participate in the annual board meeting of editors of the Journal of Transport Geography (JTRG).
As associate editor for the Americas and one of six regional editors, Dr. Keeling manages more than 50 manuscripts annually for peer reviewing and editing. The JTRG has become the world’s leading specialist transport geography journal, with a high impact factor, monthly issues, special sections on cutting-edge research strategies, and a very high level of author satisfaction. It receives more than 300 submissions annually, of which about 50 percent eventually are published in the journal.
Dr. Keeling is especially focused on increasing submissions from Latin American colleagues on transport infrastructure, policy and mobility challenges, as the region’s transport issues have been significantly under-represented in recent decades.
While in London, Dr. Keeling continued research on the role of the River Thames in shaping, and being shaped by, the ever-changing landscapes of the city. He has collected more than 30 years of landscape imagery along the river, with photos focusing primarily on the core section from upriver near Richmond and Kew to downriver at the Thames Barrier. Some of the world’s most spectacular and historic landmarks, both old and new, can be found along this 30-mile stretch of river.
A brief introduction to this theme, which will evolve into a book in the near future, can be found in the journal FOCUS on Geography at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/foge.12014/abstract
