WKU civil engineering students will be traveling to the University of Texas at Tyler next week for the 2016 Concrete Canoe National Competition.

WKU’s concrete canoe team won the Ohio Valley Student Conference earlier this spring to advance to the 2016 national competition June 9-11 at the University of Texas at Tyler.

“We are extremely excited to be attending the National Competition for the second year in a row and for the 15th time in WKU history,” said Professor Matthew Dettman, faculty advisor. “It’s an incredible accomplishment just to get to this level and I have every confidence that the team will do their best and make WKU proud.”

WKU’s Bar-B-Qrete won the Ohio Valley Student Conference in April to advance to the June 9-11 national competition. At the regional event, WKU placed first in design paper and oral presentation and second in final product. In the canoe races, WKU finished first in co-ed sprint and second in all other races including men’s and women’s sprint, and men’s and women’s endurance.

WKU finished 17^th in the 2015 national competition.
