Bowling Green, KY – In honor of Women’s History Month, WKU’s Library Special Collections presents “Mary Todd Lincoln: First Lady of Controversy” on Sunday, March 17 at 3pm in the Kentucky Building. Gwen Thompson, director of the Mary Todd Lincoln House, will be the guest speaker. Lincoln was known to be sophisticated and educated, seemingly poised for success as first lady. Yet, few women in American history have endured as much tragedy and controversy.
“Mary Todd Lincoln is one of the most pitied and maligned women in U.S. history. I hope people will come and hear a more factual representation about one of the Commonwealth’s best known natives,” said Jonathan Jeffrey, Library Special Collections department head.
All in the community are invited to this free event to learn more about the competing perspectives on this complex woman. An informal tea will follow. For more information, contact Jeffrey, department head of Library Special Collections, at 270-745-5265.
