Graduating Mechanical Engineering student, Savannah Bell, reflects on her time at WKU with a sense of pride and accomplishment. In addition to her studies, Savannah has also worked at the Center for Energy Systems for over 2 years.  The CES maintains contracts between WKU and our Industrial Partners.  During this time she learned how to perform motion analysis and learned how to use multiple simulation tools to perform fluid simulations.  She also obtained an internship with SpanTech, a conveyer company in Glasgow, KY.  It was there that she was included on a patent titled, “Adjustable Conveyer Belt Guiderails and Related Methods”. 

When asked about the best part of her WKU experience, Savannah says “With the small class sizes, your professors are able to get to know you and they care about your success.  Several staff members have also seen me studying and consistently gone out of their way to encourage me over the years”.  A great example of this is when she first visited campus to meet Joel Lenoir, Professor of Engineering & Applied Sciences, she was given the personal attention that made it clear that WKU was the choice for her.  Savannah says of the experience, “He gave me a tour and introduced me to some students that were studying engineering. These students finished up my tour and shared with me about their experiences at WKU”. 

Savannah is graduating in just a few days and plans to move to Huntsville, AL to pursue a career in the aerospace and defense industry so that she can continue learning and make a positive impact on the advancement of aerospace technologies.
