WKU senior Rebekah Cowherd of Campbellsville was one of five recipients of a $1,000 2020 KAMP Scholarship presented during this year’s virtual Kentucky GIS Conference, hosted by the Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals.

Cowherd is majoring in General Agriculture with a minor in Environmental Studies and Sustainability and a certificate in Geographic Information Systems. She also is pursuing the Emergency Management Disaster Science Certificate offered at WKU.

“I love the versatile, yet synergistic, application of my degree as it gives me the ability to work in many different occupational sectors,” she said. “I am deeply interested in the fields of Precision Agriculture Technologies and Sustainable City Planning.”

While at WKU, Cowherd has served on the leadership team at the WKU Wesley campus ministry and as a resident assistant in Minton Hall and has worked as a GIS independent contractor for the City of Campbellsville Public Works Office.

Since 2013 when KAMP started offering the GIS scholarship, a WKU student has won the $1,000 scholarship each year except in 2016. This year marks the first time that KAMP awarded five recipients $1,000 scholarships. The scholarships were sponsored by the Cumberland Chapter of URISA with donations by GIS professionals Curt Bynum and Pete Croswell. In the previous years, only one student was selected for the GIS Scholarship.
