Dr. Tracey Deutsch: “The Julia Child Project”
- Date: Thursday, October 24th, 20132013-10-24
- Time: 7:00pm
- Location: Gary Ransdell Hall AuditoriumGary Ransdell Hall Auditorium
Description:
Deutsch sees in Julia Child’s life the growing centrality of food to American culture, politics, and middle-class identity. Child’s success points to powerful personality and the appeal of French cuisine, but also to an emerging infrastructure of media, policy, domestic labor, and middle and upper-class socializing around dinners. She argues that Child’s extraordinary life was itself a project, one rooted in profound changes in American life.
