The Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex at WKU – Family Resource Program will host the first Special Needs Expo on Saturday, March 24, 2018.
FREE ADMISSION
The Special Needs Expo is a chance for individuals and families with special needs/Special Medical Needs in the BRADD area to experience a day of fun, excitement, and learning.
The Special Needs Expo will include emphasis in the following areas:
•Early Childhood Intervention
•Education awareness and Support Groups
•Sports and Recreation
•Health
•Transition resources for individuals with special needs aged 21 and over
•Advocacy and Support
Our goal in hosting this event is three-fold.
Provide Information – With the many resources available to families, it is possible that there are some services that families are unaware of. We want to offer an event where families can learn new things about the community and what we have to offer children with special needs. We want to provide a fun atmosphere where children and families can speak face-to-face with various agencies that may be able to meet their needs. We envision an event that is characterized by cooperation, not competition so families see that we are working together to provide the best services possible for their children.
Inspire Hope – It is not difficult to see how families struggling with a diagnosis or burdened by the day to day care of a special needs child may become discouraged. We want to inspire hope for families through each phase of life by helping them see that they are not alone, and that not only can they survive challenges facing their families, but they can thrive.
Empower Families – By providing information and inspiring hope, we want to empower families to make the best choices for themselves and their children. We want them to be confident in their ability to plan for their future and provide the best care for their children.
