While Jeremiah Debique’s college journey did not start at Western Kentucky University, the sophomore from Texas was able to make the transition to WKU with help from the WKU Transfer Center. However, the process of transferring had its rocky moments.
“There were rough patches because sending my transcripts and finishing my semester at my old school and then re-submitting my grades was a lot, but I am glad that I got it done,” Debique shared.
Debique shared that the WKU Transfer Center staff were always willing to answer any questions he had over the phone or email and helped with his transcripts. Jarrett Murphy, a Senior Transfer Advisor, was particularly helpful.
“Mr. Murphy helped a lot. My family and I were new to the process of transferring. He went above and beyond to help us finish the transfer,” Debique said.
Debique also recognized the experience of transferring across the country could prepare him for future travels after his undergrad career ends, such as relocating for a job or moving to a new city.
Debique is studying Criminology and plans to join the police force or FBI after graduating in 2024. He solidified these plans with the help of Dr. Holli Drummond, Department Head and a Professor of Sociology and Criminology.
Reflecting on why he chose this career path, he noted that he wants to help others in his future community.
“I am interested in the investigation side of it because I like solving things. These cases that they work on affect a person’s life and how they live and solving it can help bring peace to somebody. The reason I want to be a police officer is to make whatever community I live in a safe and fun place for people to live,” Debique stated.
