WKU to participate in statewide tornado drill
- WKU News
- Tuesday, March 5th, 2024
WKU will participate in the statewide tornado safety drill on Wednesday (March 6). At approximately 9:07 a.m. (Central time), WKU will test its emergency communications network, including the outdoor warning speakers.
This is an informational drill only and WKU will maintain normal activities during this test. As part of 2024 Severe Weather Awareness Week March 1-7, the statewide tornado drill is conducted in partnership with the National Weather Service (NWS), Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM), the Kentucky Weather Preparedness Committee (KWPC), and Kentucky Broadcasters Association. Across Kentucky, outdoor warning sirens will sound, weather alert radios will activate and television and radio stations will broadcast the alert, along with mobile devices.
Members of the WKU community are encouraged to use this drill as an opportunity to learn where to seek shelter on campus and to make sure they are signed up for emergency text alerts through TopNet.
Information about how to sign up for WKU text alerts is available on the Campus Safety at WKU page and on the WKU Emergency and Weather-Related Communications page. Because WKU strives to deliver emergency notifications by text message as quickly as possible, users will sometimes receive WKU notifications from different SMS short code numbers. After signing up to receive text alerts, you may also wish to download our WKU Emergency Alert contact card. Doing so allows you to quickly add the multiple SMS short codes used by our emergency alert system, combining them under a single contact so that you can more quickly recognize when WKU has sent you an emergency alert.
