Sydney Wheeler Named a 2019 Regeneron Science Talent Search Scholar: Gatton Academy student Sydney Wheeler of Scottsville has been named a 2019 Regeneron Science Talent Search Scholar. The Regeneron Science Talent Search, founded and produced by Society for Science & the Public, is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors.
Brinkley named to public media professional development working group: David Brinkley, director of WKU Public Broadcasting, has been named to a 14-member working group to support professional development in public media. The professional development working group is part of a new partnership between Public Television’s Affinity Group Coalition (AGC) and the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) announced Wednesday at the 2019 NETA Conference and CPB Public Media Thought Leader Forum in Salt Lake City.
24^th annual PRISM Concert tonight: The WKU Music Department will present its 24^th annual PRISM Concert at 8 tonight at Van Meter Hall. The concert will feature the Wind Ensemble, Symphony at WKU, Jazz Band, Steel Drum Band, The Red Shirts, The Treble Makers and more. Tickets are $15; $8 for WKU students with ID. Proceeds benefit Music Department scholarships.
WKU Writing Center spring hours: The WKU Writing Center is open for the spring semester and offers helpful feedback on any kind of writing by working with WKU students to help them improve themselves and become better writers. Spring hours are: Cherry Hall 123: Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Cravens Commons: Sunday 5-9 p.m., Monday 4-9 p.m., Tuesday 2-9 p.m., Wednesday 2-4 p.m. and Thursday 4-9 p.m. More: WKU Glasgow Writing Center
Mindfulness program for students: The WKU Counseling Center will offer the Introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) group program this spring as part of its outreach to promote students’ psychological wellness. The group will meet for four sessions on Tuesdays from March 19 to April 9 at the Preston Health and Activities Center multipurpose room. WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. Men’s basketball: Bassey Leads Hilltoppers to 66-63 Road Win at Southern Miss: Charles Bassey pulled down 17 rebounds for the second straight game, and WKU Hilltopper Basketball held on late for a 66-63 victory at Southern Miss on Thursday. The freshman center Bassey finished with 14 points and 17 rebounds, as he and redshirt junior guard/forward Jared Savage (14 points) led five Hilltoppers in double figures scoring. Next: WKU at Louisiana Tech at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Women’s basketball: Late Lady Topper Rally Falls Just Short in 69-56 Loss to Southern Miss: Southern Miss used a 14-0 run across the first and second quarters and held off a spirited WKU rally in a 69-56 setback for the Lady Toppers on Thursday evening inside E.A. Diddle Arena. WKU (11-9, 5-1 C-USA) dropped its first C-USA home game inside Diddle Arena since Feb. 6, 2016, ending a streak of 22 consecutive conference wins on its home court. Next: WKU vs. Louisiana Tech at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Track & Field: Hilltoppers Return to Big Ten Country for IU Relays: Following another successful outing at the Vanderbilt Invitational, the WKU Track and Field squads will make the trip to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana University Relays. Fourteen programs including the Tops and Hoosiers will be represented at the two-day competition today and Saturday.
Tennis: Lady Topper Set for Second Spring Outing: WKU Tennis continues its opening stretch of road play at Austin Peay on Saturday. The match will begin at noon CT, at the Governors Tennis Center in Clarksville, Tenn.
Baseball: Countdown to First Pitch - 100 Days of Hilltopper History: As WKU prepares for the 100th Season of Hilltopper Baseball, WKU Athletics is treating fans to unique moments and interesting history from Hilltopper Baseball, leading up to First Pitch at Nick Denes Field on February 15.
