- English Department honors winners in Second Annual Essay Contest: The WKU English Department honored nine winners in its Second Annual Essay Contest at a reception on Wednesday (Feb. 6).
- New Exhibits and Workshops coming to Kentucky Museum: The Kentucky Museum has several exhibitions opening in Spring 2019.
- WKU Board of Regents to hold committee meetings today: The WKU Board of Regents will hold committee meetings today (Feb. 8) in the Martin Regents Room, Jody Richards Hall, beginning at 9 a.m.
- Lone Star Rodeo returns to WKU's Ag Expo Center this weekend: The Lone Star Rodeo Company will make its 2019 visit to WKU’s L.D. Brown Agricultural Exposition Center for four shows this weekend -- 8 p.m. Feb. 8; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Feb. 9; and 2 p.m. Feb. 10.
- WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. WKU's Public Radio can be heard on WKYU-FM (88.9) in Bowling Green/Glasgow; WDCL-FM (89.7) in Somerset/Campbellsville; WKPB-FM (88.9) in Henderson/Owensboro; WKUE-FM (90.9) in Elizabethtown/Bardstown; and online at http://www.wkyufm.org/

- Introducing 'Behind the Research': The Potter College Dean’s Council of Students (DCS) will host a new lecture series called Behind the Research (BTR). While most lectures around campus present research or creative projects, the goal of this series is to tell the stories behind the making of research. The first professor to present at BTR is Dr. Blair Thompson of the Communication Department and the Interim Director of Teacher Education. Dr. Thompson’s talk will begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 12) in FAC 156 (next to the Potter College Academic Commons).
WKU Sports
- Men’s basketball: Hilltoppers Seize 92-85 Win at Rice in Double OT: It took all the Hilltoppers had to get the win Thursday night. WKU Hilltopper Basketball held Rice scoreless for more than seven minutes late in regulation, then made clutch plays in the extra periods for a 92-85 road victory in double overtime. Next: WKU at North Texas at 5 p.m. Saturday.
- Women’s basketball: WKU Falls 68-46 Against C-USA Leader Rice: Whitney Creech scored 12 points to match her season-high, but WKU dropped a hard-fought 68-46 decision against Rice inside E.A. Diddle Arena on Thursday evening. The Owls (19-3, 10-0 C-USA) remain unbeaten in C-USA play atop the leaderboard, while WKU (14-10, 8-2) lost for just the second time in its last 10 outings. Next: WKU vs. North Texas at 2 p.m. Saturday.
- Baseball: WKU 2019 Media Day: With only eight days remaining before first pitch of the 2019 WKU Baseball season against Northern Kentucky, head coach John Pawlowski along with Ray Zuberer III, Kevin Lambert and Davis Sims spoke at Nick Denes Field at the Hilltoppers' media day.
- Softball: Tops Head South to Open Season at Sand Dollar Classic: WKU Softball is set to open the 2019 season this weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala., at the Sand Dollar Classic. Five games are on the slate for the Hilltoppers as the squad will play doubleheaders today and Saturday before taking the field for the final time on Sunday.
- Track & Field: WKU Headed for Music City Challenge to Close Regular-Season Slate: WKU Track and Field will make its second trip of the indoor season to Nashville, Tenn., for the Vanderbilt-hosted Music City Challenge today and Saturday. Action from the Commodores' Multipurpose Facility will feature a total of 25 teams.
- Tennis: Weekend Trip to Texas Slated for Lady Toppers: WKU Tennis heads to the Lone Star State this weekend to compete in two away matches. The Lady Toppers will play at UT Arlington today followed by a midday matchup at Conference USA opponent North Texas on Saturday.
- Baseball: Countdown to First Pitch - 100 Days of Hilltopper History: As WKU prepares for the 100th Season of Hilltopper Baseball, WKU Athletics is treating fans to unique moments and interesting history from Hilltopper Baseball, leading up to First Pitch at Nick Denes Field on February 15.

- WKU baton twirler named finalist in national social media challenge: The WKU Big Red Marching Band is known for playing at all of the university’s major sporting events, but mainly football and basketball games. One member of the band, who doesn’t even play an instrument, is a finalist for a national social media award, and it all started with a video posted to Instagram.
