Dr. Giliane Rasbold is an environmental engineer with expertise in ecology, limnology, and paleoecology. Her research centers on reconstructing past environments using siliceous microfossils preserved in lake sediments.
She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, with her dissertation focusing on the paleolimnology of the Pantanal wetlands (Brazil). Dr. Rasbold brings extensive field experience in sediment core collection, planning, and logistics. Her professional background includes postdoctoral research at the University of São Paulo’s Center for Nuclear Energy in Agriculture (Brazil), where she studied Holocene limnological changes in the Pantanal's saline-alkaline lakes, and at the University of Kentucky, where she expanded her research to the East African Rift Valley and Grand Teton National Park.
Passionate about mentoring students, Dr. Rasbold is committed to establishing a Paleoecology and Paleolimnology Laboratory to advance interdisciplinary research to understand the impacts of climate change on aquatic ecosystems. For more information, please contact her at giliane.rasbold@wku.edu.
