September 9^th marks the sixth annual Project Affect campus and community engagement fair at WKU. The WKU ALIVE Center for Community Partnerships and WKU Student Activities: Leadership & Volunteerism are coordinating this year’s event to offer information to campus and community members on ways to get involved through service. In addition, participating groups engage visitors in hands-on activities reflective of their different causes. Last year, we had approximately 600 students participate in the event. 

This year’s Project Affect will take place on Wednesday, September 9th from 10:30-2:30 at Centennial Mall. If you have a service component to your course or if you would like to get your students involved on campus and in the community, encourage them to attend Project Affect. This is a swipeable event. The Gordon Ford College of Business Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation is hosting its first Entrepreneur Speaker Series event.  Alumnae Samantha McCormick of Taboo Dance & Fitness will discuss the topic:  Taking advantage of WKU resources to start your business as a student.

At the Majors and Minors and Study Abroad Fair, students will have the unique opportunity to explore academic programs at WKU and options for expanding their education through a study abroad experience that fits with their academic and career goals. Hundreds of dollars in door prizes will be raffled throughout the event, and students will have the opportunity to win one of two study abroad scholarships.

Life in a Secret City of the Manhattan Project 

Denise Kiernan is the New York Times Bestselling author of The Girls of Atomic City (Touchstone/ Simon & Schuster), the true story of young women living in a secret government city during World War II while unknowingly working on the first atomic bomb. Kiernan has been working as a writer for nearly 20 years. There will be a pre-lecture reception at Mass Media and Technology Hall atrium and gallery where more than 50 historic photographs of Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Japan days after the bombs were dropped will be on display.

For 2015-2016, there will be films, speakers, coffee-house conversations, and cultural displays featuring South Africa and you are invited to join in the adventure! Come for lunch and bring your calendar along so you can pencil in some of the fascinating events planned for The International Year of South Africa.

The WKU Office of Admissions will host three Head for The Hill events on September 26, November 11, and February 15.

Head for The Hill is a free, open house event that offers a comprehensive look at WKU’s outstanding academic offerings, student activities, and beautiful campus. Sessions are offered to provide valuable information about life on The Hill, and an exciting expo allows students and their families the opportunity to personally connect with representatives from different academic departments, student services, housing, financial aid, and more!

There will also be a football game on September 26. Head for The Hill participants and guests can see the Hilltoppers take on the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks for a discounted rate. Go here to buy tickets for the game! Kickoff is at 2:30 PM Central Time.

All Head for The Hill events will take place on WKU's main campus in Bowling Green, KY. Check-in will be from 8:00 to 9:00 AM (Central Time) at Entrance #2 of Diddle Arena. Head for The Hill will kick off after check-in with a welcome from our university president and an opening assembly.
