Lesson planning is the roadmap to providing developmentally appropriate learning experiences to young children. It is important that children are excited about learning! It’s also important for educators to understand child development in order to incorporate growth and development into daily activities. Kentucky’s Early Childhood Standards help providers know what young children should learn. The purpose of the early childhood standards is to provide educators with a guide to preparing children for success in school, starting in infancy through four-years of age. They describe the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that are important for children to gain before they enter school. These standards provide early childhood professionals with a valuable resource to use for lesson planning, interactions, family engagement, and so much more.
Training Outcomes:
- Receive a copy of Kentucky’s Early Childhood Standards.
- Learn about standards as they are related to curriculum and lesson planning used in the classroom.
- Be able to list the different developmental domains and locate them in the standards.
- Find the standard/benchmarks and match them with specific activities.
- Interact with materials by using a list of activities provided.
- Find the early childhood standards that match up with each activity.
- Take the materials and activity lists back to their classrooms to incorporate into their lesson plans/curriculum.
