Positive and Adverse Childhood Experiences is a training connected to the Kentucky Strengthening Families (KSF) Initiative that teaches how risk and protective factors are generational therefore, when we talk about strengthening a family we are talking about supporting the babies, the young children, the youth, and the parents in the home. Participants will learn that the overreaching goal of the Positive and Adverse Childhood Experiences Training is to achieve positive outcomes by mitigating risk and enhancing healthy development and well-being of children and youth. Participants will learn about the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences and how Positive Childhood Experiences reduces those negative effects, in addition to how the role of resiliency and Positive Childhood Experiences can increase mental and relational health.

Being able to recognize the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences is only half of the equation in early childhood. We are wanting to boost the children we serve with Positive Childhood Experiences in order to build their resiliency and become a more overall resilient person as a whole.

The training objectives for the ACEs and PCEs training are…

  • First, understand the purpose and history behind Strengthening Kentucky Families Initiative.
  • Second, recognize the impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences.
  • Third, gain an understanding of Positive Childhood Experiences, and
  • Fourth, identify how Positive Childhood Experiences can balance out the impact of adversity experienced during childhood.
