Weekly Legislative Update - March 7, 2025

There is one week left in the 2025 legislative session before the ten-day veto period. This week has seen a flurry of bills passing out of committees, the House and the Senate. Several postsecondary bills advanced this week; a summary is provided below.
House Bill 4
House Bill (HB)4 is an act relating to initiatives regarding diversity, equity and inclusion. HB4 restricts diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at public universities. HB4 passed the House of Representatives on March 5 with a committee substitute and floor amendment. HB4 was received in the Senate and has been given two readings. House Bill 424
House Bill (HB)424 is an act relating to employment at public postsecondary education institutions. HB424 requires the boards of each public university to approve a performance and productivity evaluation process for presidents and faculty members by January 1, 2026. HB424 passed the House of Representatives on February 26 and has been received in the Senate. You can view the current version HB424 here.
Senate Joint Resolution 55
Senate Joint Resolution (SJR)55 directs the board of each public university to adopt policies to combat antisemitism. SJR55 has been received in the House and has been given two readings. You can view the current version of SJR55 here.
Senate Resolution 105
Senate Resolution (SR)105 confirms the appointment of Derrick Helm to the WKU Board of Regents. SR105 has been introduced in the Senate and is awaiting final approval. You can view SR105 here.
