The Mahurin Honors College Admission Overview
How do I Apply?
All scholars interested in applying to the Mahurin Honors College (MHC) must be first admitted to WKU for general admission. Remember to complete your WKU Application for admission early. Learn more about the WKU application and deadlines on our admissions website.
The MHC application is a supplemental application completed after you have been admitted to Western Kentucky University in your student portal. Log-in with the email and password you used to create your WKU application, and you'll be able to complete your MHC application in the same portal. You can save your work as you go along, and we recommend completing the essays separately and then to paste/copy them into the available space. If you plan to use the CommonApp, you will be able to migrate your application and contents toward your MHC application.
The Mahurin Honors College (MHC) welcomes transfer applications from students at 2-year and 4-year institutions, including current WKU students. Joining MHC as a transfer scholar offers academic and personal growth through challenging coursework, smaller class sizes, a diverse community, leadership and professional development, study abroad programs, and alumni networking.
Prospective scholars must apply to WKU first, then to MHC. Current WKU students only need to apply to MHC. Application for admission by a transfer applicant is accessed via Formstack form.
First-Time Freshmen Scholarships: To be considered for these scholarships, first-time freshmen students must plan to enroll full-time at WKU in the Summer or Fall semester of 2025, which requires a complete application with the Admissions Office.
Academic scholarships at Western Kentucky University are awarded through the Office of Student Financial Assistance. A wide variety of scholarships are available for first-time freshmen, current students and transfer students.
Should you have questions about Scholarships, the Office of Student Financial Assistance will be your main contact in receiving help (we in the MHC Office of course will help, but the Office of Student Financial Assistance will be the main/first point).
In addition to the scholarships that are awarded by the University based on academic merit, there are numerous scholarships that are awarded by the College Heights Foundation through private funds established by alumni and friends, academic departments or programs throughout the University, or by community organizations and professional associations.
To be eligible for any of these awards, each scholar must submit their TOPDollar Scholarship Application annually by January 1.
Current Mahurin Honors College scholars in good standing are eligible to apply for a variety of grants to support out-of-classroom experiences, including but not limited to: study abroad, research, travel to academic conferences and internships.
MHC scholars occupy leadership and membership roles across campus.
There are several scholarship options for first-time, transfer, and current students at WKU. The TopDollar Scholarship portal is a convenient one-stop place to apply for many available scholarships.
The Transfer Center is the one-stop location for students interested in transferring to WKU. The Transfer Center can assist students with transfer admission, credit evaluation, advising, and much more.
Seamlessly transition to WKU and receive financial support designed to recognize your academic achievements, making your path to higher education both affordable and rewarding.
This community is for any student who is transferring to WKU from another institution of higher education, whether that is a four-year university or a community college.
Honors scholars have access to Minton Hall and Southwest Hall to live among like-minded peers who are intellectually curious and who prioritize their studies, well-being, and community.
