First-Year Admission

We are thrilled that you are considering the Mahurin Honors College (MHC) as part of your Hilltopper experience! The MHC application is a supplemental application completed after you have been admitted to Western Kentucky University.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Strength of writing samples
  • Level of curricular and co-curricular involvement (i.e., clubs, sports, leadership, full- or part-time work)
  • Academic quality (i.e., course rigor and academic GPA)

Note: As of August 1, 2021, the MHC no longer requires an ACT or SAT score for admission consideration.

Selection Timeline:

  • December 15 - preferred application deadline for high school seniors starting WKU in Fall 2025; or for transfers seeking admission to MHC for Spring 2025
  • March 1 - secondary application deadline for high school seniors starting WKU in Fall 2025
  • July 15 - final deadline for high school seniors starting in Fall 2025 or transfer students starting in Fall/Winter 2025

By completing the supplemental application for MHC admission consideration, the MHC review committee (composed of WKU staff, faculty, and MHC alumni) will review it using a holistic review rubric.

Applications to join MHC for Fall 2024 are now closed.

Special Notes:

  • First time first year students who are accepted to the Mahurin Honors College are eligible to take ANY course with an Honors designation.
  • First time first year students who are not accepted to the Mahurin Honors College for the 2024-2025 academic year may still enroll in Honors courses in their first semester at WKU if they have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher and then reapply for honors admission consideration for the next academic year as an upper-level internal transfer.
