Thomas Deaton Spotlight
- Saturday, October 9th, 2021
Thomas Deaton (MHC ‘19), while studying English and Environmental Studies, “made it part of his daily routine to be as involved as possible in both the Honors College and broader WKU communities.” He served as a Spirit Master, H4 Counselor, and MHC Student Assistant. Most recently, since his graduation, he has helped score MHC admissions applications.
Thomas studied abroad with the Fall 2016 voyage of Semester at Sea. For his honors CE/T, he created a 100-page coffee table book of words & photographs documenting this experience which allowed him to edit and produce work of published scale. Last month, Thomas graduated with his Master of Arts in Public Management from Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Advanced Governmental Studies in Washington, DC.
Thomas advises each MHC scholar to, “find an opportunity to present your work! I was finally able to share one of my undergraduate research papers near the end of college, and I wish I had done so sooner. It is a unique feeling to present on a subject that demonstrates your passions.”
In regards to Homecoming, Thomas is excited to attend the 40th anniversary celebration of the Spirit Masters organization. “Homecoming is one of the few moments in the school’s calendar that draws everyone to campus all at once. I loved the collegiate feeling of seeing everyone in WKU gear walking toward the stadium.”
We are incredibly thankful for all the ways Thomas has served the MHC and wish him the best on his future endeavors.
