Gatton Academy & Craft Academy Graduates Research and Experiential Learning Award


Gatton Academy & Craft Academy graduates are eligible up to $3,000 per academic year over four years to support research, creative endeavors, experiential learning, and professional development activities. 

  • A WKU faculty member must approve the project, but does not necessarily have to collaborate on the project. Example: the award could be used to participate in research at the National Institutes of Health, but a WKU faculty member must agree to monitor and assess the activities.
  • Grants can be awarded per semester ($1,500) or for the summer ($3,000)
  • Upon approval, the funding will be applied to the recipients WKU tuition account. Any outstanding fees will be paid prior to funding being released.
  • This award is not an automatic scholarship for Gatton and Craft alumni in The MHC. It is funding based upon having an accepted GACAGRELA proposal on file.
  • Funding is for research/creative experience supplies only. Funding cannot be used for living expenses. A detailed budget of what the supplies will be used for is required. In process please add You are required to keep up with receipts for all expenses to be turned in with the progress report.
  • Accept the award on TopNet. Doing so is not a commitment to accept the funding in a given year, but ensures that it will be available.
  • Develop a proposal with a WKU faculty member and submit the proposal to the Assistant Director for Academics (see the proposal guidelines).
  • Submit a progress report at the end of each funding period, (semester/summer).
  • Have successfully completed HON 251 or be currently enrolled. (Effective Fall 2021.)
  • Maintain full-time enrollment and good standing in the Mahurin Honors College.
  • Maintain the requirements of the Gatton Academy & Craft Academy Graduates Targeted Scholarship from WKU.
  • Complete an Honors Capstone Experience/Thesis project.
  • Submit proposals and progress reports as outlined. (Additional funding will not be released until the previous progress report has been received.)
  • Receipts/invoices must be turned in showing what the funding what used for.

Disclaimer: Should a student choose to withdraw from the Mahurin Honors College (MHC) or fail to complete and defend their CE/T, the MHC reserves the right to reclaim any financial awards or funding previously granted in connection with their participation in the program.

  • Proposals must be received at least two weeks before finals week to be applied to any given term.
